Twenty five years ago, Fr. Bernie Boff and a group of dedicated volunteers met a need by starting to feed their neighbors at the old St. Teresa of Avila Parish on Dorr Street. Some of those original volunteers still work at Claver House to serve the poor and hungry among us.
Years later, the ministry moved into the basement of the rectory at St. Martin de Porres Parish. A diverse, dedicated, ever changing group of volunteers continues to feed hungry clients. We are an all volunteer organization. Many of our volunteers have dedicated one day a week for over 15 years, to prepare and serve a hot meal for the needy in the Swayne Field neighborhood. Our volunteers come from all over metro Toledo and represent Catholic and non-Catholic faiths. Through the generousity of many businesses, Catholic parishes, Catholic schools, and many loving friends, we are able to to live Jesus' words: "feed my people." The need, unfortunately, never ends. |
